Nonpoint is the latest band to join the NU-Metal music genre. No they aren't from Southern California, but from Florida where the glitzy Miami dance scene seems to dominate. I've listened to their debut CD 'Statement' several times now, and everytime it just gets better and better. The line up consists of vocalist Elias Soriano, guitarist Andrew Goldman, bassist KB, and drummer Robb Rivera.
These four guys I must say are really impressive considering they've only been together for 3 years before releasing Statement. And what do they have to show for those 3 years? A solid collection of tracks, tight vocals with clean guitar and drum work and a massive regional following of fans. Andrew Goldman definitely has an edge that, along with the hearty, Latin-influenced (check out track 8, "Orgullo") vocals of Soriano, will bring Nonpoint to significant heights. Statement brings some serious energy that will really get you up on your feet shouting for more.
Nonpoint likes to consider themselves as the "big brother" to their fan base, which consists mostly of under 18 year old youths. A few of the tracks are geared towards the problems and issues young kids deal with everyday. For example, track 2, "Victim" and track 3, "Endure", seem to be following a trend set by acts like Papa Roach. But then again, not all the tracks are of that nature. Track 8, "Orgullo", is sung in Spanish and talks of Spanish pride, signifying Soriano's and Rivera's Puerto Rican culture. Some other tracks to check out are track 5, "What a Day", and track 11, "Levels", which has a high-energy punk influence. Although the album fits the genre of new metal, the last track, "Tribute", is a more of a rap/rock sounding track.
Statement is no-doubt a shred fest of screaming vocals and a recommended daily allowance of hard heavy guitar work. Be sure to pick up this well produced album as soon as possible.
