Now that the charts are safe for "American Pie"-obsessed mall punks, Guttermouth have it made. The Orange County band's eighth album is filled with nitrous-huffing vocals, discount rock riffs, and the sort of lyrics that even Blink-182 would find too obnoxious to tackle. Or not. "I'd take you out to dinner but I can't find my pants," singer Mark Adkins croons on "Pee in the Shower."
The group mixes up the usual acerbic punk bluster with clownish stabs at the B-52's spastic synth pop ("My Town"), They Might Be Giants-style country rave-ups ("Gusto"), and, yes, even drunken pirate shanties ("Looking Out for No. 1"). Wild stuff.
